IBM and Linden Lab Partner on Open Borders

Reuters has an article up on a new partnership between IBM and Linden Lab:

Open borders sought for virtual worlds

Past rumors and comments from IBM execs are starting to take shape. IBM and Linden Lab announced a partnership before last week’s virtual worlds conference held in San Jose, California.

The announcement centers on IBM’s desire to facilitate the movement of avatars between virtual worlds. IBM wants to do for virtual worlds as they did for eCommerce in the early 90’s. Linden Lab commented on the possibility of open borders between worlds by stating:

“If you think you are walled and secure, somebody will create something that’s open and then people will drain themselves away as fast as possible.”

Anyone following this development needs to jump to the article for all the details on this important new partnership.
